Two Women in Cincinnati Mob Attack Receive Bond Reductions
The two women implicated in the Cincinnati mob attack last month got a significant break regarding their bail conditions on Thursday.
Dekyra Vernon, aged 24, has been incarcerated since July 29. The incident involved several men getting attacked on the street, during which another woman named Holly was seen punched and slapped by a man, who looked somewhat indifferent.
“This is Holly. She just wanted to have a good time with her friends. But, well, instead, this happened,” said a Republican senator from Ohio, Bernie Moreno, sharing a still showing Holly’s injuries post-attack.
Vernon is reportedly the person seen on video where a man strikes Holly from behind before hitting him in the face. A local news source noted that Vernon reportedly “attacked” Holly, leading to her losing consciousness.
Ohio Republican Senator Bernie Moreno also shared visuals of Holly’s injuries after the incident, emphasizing her intentions for a fun night that took a turn for the worse.
Aisha Devarn, 25, has been in custody since the previous Wednesday. The same news outlet reported her as a woman in a white bodysuit caught in a viral video where she is seen stomping and kicking the victim while he’s on the ground.
In the footage, she can be seen delivering multiple stomps to the victim, with the scene escalating to a significant altercation. A similar video shows a flurry of confused interactions between the individuals involved.
Both Vernon and Devarn face multiple charges alongside four male suspects, which could theoretically keep them incarcerated for almost thirty years, depending on the outcomes.
During a court session on Thursday, their bond amounts were surprisingly lowered by Judge Alan Triggs. Vernon’s bond was originally set at $200,000 but was reduced to $25,000. This decision elicited cheers from those present in the courtroom, as court records reveal she has no previous charges in the county.
Devarn, initially facing a bond of $300,000, also saw her bond lowered to $25,000, as her legal representation highlighted her lack of prior felonies.
The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office was approached for comments on the reductions but stated that they couldn’t discuss ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, Patrick Rosemond, who is suspected of attacking Holly, was arrested in Georgia and was unable to attend Thursday’s proceedings.
Other suspects, including 37-year-old Dominique Kittle and 39-year-old Jermaine Matthews, appeared in court but were not afforded similar bond reductions. Matthews is mentioned in connection with further charges stemming from the incident, including video evidence of him allegedly inflicting harm on the victim.
Merriweather was previously charged with possessing a stolen firearm and faced multiple legal issues prior to this incident. His bond related to the mob incident was set significantly higher.
The details surrounding the Cincinnati mob attack continue to unfold, with local leaders calling for accountability and investigations into the background and motivations behind the violence.
