Father Arrested After Beating Toddler in NYC Shelter
A father from New York City is facing grave accusations after allegedly beating his 2-year-old son shortly before his birth and neglecting to seek medical assistance for days while they stayed at a Queens shelter, according to police and various sources.
On Tuesday, the NYPD arrested 30-year-old Davon Morrison in connection with the terrible incident involving his son, who is currently in critical condition.
Authorities state that the alleged assault took place late Friday night at the homeless shelter. The following morning, Morrison reportedly left the shelter, pushing his injured child in a stroller toward Manhattan.
Emergency responders became involved when a 911 call was made shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday. When police arrived, they found Morrison’s son with serious head injuries near 102nd Street and Third Avenue in East Harlem.
The boy was quickly transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition, officials reported.
In an emotional post on Instagram, the boy’s mother wrote about her child “fighting for his life in the intensive care unit (ICU),” sharing a distressing image of her son, who was unconscious and covered in stitches and gauze.
In a follow-up on Facebook, she revealed that doctors fear her son might not be able to “advance mentally” due to the extent of his injuries. She expressed her anguish, saying, “I’m praying and trying to hold on; Lord please help my baby, my baby just started putting words together and calling me mama, he was perfect and so smart.”
Morrison is now facing two counts of assault and was taken into custody in Queens on Tuesday. He reportedly remained expressionless and declined to answer questions as he left the police station.
Details are still unclear regarding Morrison’s whereabouts between Saturday—when a family member first called for help—and early Monday morning, as well as where he kept his seriously injured son during that time.
