Tylor Megill impresses with three scoreless innings in rotation fight

Notable items from Thursday’s Mets’ Grapefruit League game:

Tyler Megill, making his second appearance this spring, pitched three scoreless innings in relief in the Mets’ 2-1 loss to the Astros in West Palm Beach.

The right-hander, who is competing for a spot in the rotation, struck out four and allowed two hits against a lineup that included Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker and Jose Abreu.

Luke Voit started the exhibition season as a DH, going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and 1-for-13 (.077).

Voit arrived at camp on a minor league contract.

It caught my eye

In the second inning, Brett Batty got a good start with a diving glove on Tucker’s line drive.

Batty was solid defensively in his first week, but only hit 1-for-10 (.100) at bat.

Friday schedule

Luis Severino is scheduled to pitch in his first game of the spring against the Cardinals in Jupiter.
