Tyreek Hill’s Long Recovery Journey
It’s been almost a year since Tyreek Hill faced severe foot and knee injuries, and his return to the field still seems distant.
The former Dolphins star receiver has had two surgeries to repair his torn ACL, MCL, and LCL. He mentioned that he currently has “no strength” in his left leg, approaching 10 months post-injury.
“It’s my left leg that’s injured. I don’t have any strength in my left leg, so I’m focusing on getting that strength back,” Hill shared in a recent YouTube video.
He added, “I’ve been activating my quads, glutes, hamstrings, and calves. I’m working on all the stability and mobility training necessary to get my knee back in shape, but I’m taking it day by day.”
Hill’s future in the NFL seems uncertain after a potentially career-ending injury last September against the Jets.
During a “Monday Night Football” matchup, he tore multiple ligaments after being tackled, which ultimately led to surgery.
In the video, Hill also revealed that he underwent LCL surgery in February.
Given that speed is his most significant asset, this type of injury could significantly impact his performance.
With training camp starting this week, Hill might find it challenging to play in 2026, although there’s always a chance he could sign with a team during the season.
Despite the challenges, Hill appeared unbothered in his video. “The timeline looks really good right now,” he remarked in a clip titled “Cheetah Runs Again.”
His recent posts show him actively rehabilitating in various settings.
One segment featured him in a Miami pool, bouncing and raising his knees high, alongside clips of him doing lower body exercises and running barefoot on a basketball court.
Hill mentioned he has been attempting “tempo” runs despite doctors’ recommendations against it, expressing confidence that he’ll be able to sprint on a track in about six weeks.
“I’m working to regain my explosiveness,” he said. “When I get back on the field, I want to feel like I haven’t missed a beat.”
After being released by the Dolphins this offseason, Hill became a free agent following four years with the team that saw him rack up a league-high 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023.
Last year, his stats fell to 959 yards and six touchdowns, but he still managed 21 catches for 265 yards and one touchdown despite limited playtime.
There’s been some chatter about a possible return to the Chiefs, where he first made his mark from 2016 to 2021 before being traded to the Dolphins.
“I was told I might never walk again,” Hill recalled. “Doctors didn’t know what my future would hold.” He added, “And now look at me. God is good.”
