NBA star Jonathan Isaac has called out NFL player Tyreek Hill for setting a bad example following his behavior while being pulled over for a traffic violation last week.
Hill's body camera footage of him being stopped by police last Sunday for speeding in a road construction zone has gone viral, and he has garnered a lot of support, claiming that Miami-Dade Police responded unfairly.
But Orlando Magic player Jonathan Isaac None Fox News quoted one of those who defended Hill's actions that day.
Isaac slammed Hill on his X account, writing that the video “should be shown to all young black boys to teach them how not to behave when pulled over.”
“As a black man, it's immature to put your life in the hands of a police officer like this! Especially if you're on his level. There is no obligation to be nice on either side, but 9.99 times out of 10, asking the police will be reciprocated, especially if you are stopped for a legitimate reason… that's fair… there are of course unwarranted exceptions and escalations,” Isaac wrote on Tuesday.
“This was not the best moment for either party and in my opinion, unhelpful,” he wrote in the post, which also included video of the traffic stop.
In a response to one of the respondents, Isaac added that young black men must be “hyper-vigilant” about their behavior around police officers.
“I agree! There's no denying that! Given the historical aspect, I think it's important to be extremely vigilant with the young people in our community,” he said to those who say the video should be a lesson to everyone.
The traffic stop has been a controversial incident since Tyreek was detained by police just hours before the Miami Dolphins were set to play the Tennessee Titans.
Hill was stopped by police for going 60 mph in a 40 mph construction zone, but the situation escalated when he refused to leave his tinted windows open and did not immediately exit his car when ordered to do so by police, who then dragged him out of the sports car, threw him face-first onto the ground, and handcuffed him.
The athlete was subsequently charged with speeding and refusing a lawful order from a police officer.
