U.N. Urges U.S. to Meet Its Funding Responsibilities for Global Agencies Following Trump Exit

On Thursday, a message was conveyed to the Trump administration from United Nations headquarters, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling legal obligations and continuing to support U.S. taxpayers. This came shortly after the White House declared its intention to withdraw billions from 66 organizations linked to globalist initiatives.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed regret over President Trump’s decision to pull funding from UN agencies but reiterated that member states are required to meet their financial commitments.

Among the targeted organizations are the UN Population Agency and the framework guiding international climate discussions.

According to reports, the U.S. also plans to exit several other global entities that, while not part of the UN, depend on significant American financial support.

“As we have consistently emphasized, the assessment of contributions to the United Nations regular budget and peacekeeping operations budget as approved by the General Assembly is a legal obligation under the Charter of the United Nations for all member states, including the United States,” stated Stephane Dujarric, a spokesperson for Guterres, affirming that the U.S. cannot simply withhold funds.

“All United Nations agencies will continue to carry out the mandates assigned to them by Member States.”

The Trump administration, as reported, announced plans to cut financial ties with 66 global organizations, nearly half of which are affiliated with the United Nations and have been labeled as “contrary to U.S. interests.”

One significant entity is the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which serves as the foundation for major international climate agreements.

This convention, established in 1992, is an agreement aimed at uniting countries to tackle greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change impacts.

Trump, favoring fossil fuels in his domestic policies, has openly ridiculed claims of human-induced global warming, calling it a “hoax.”

The administration did not send representatives to the annual UN Climate Change Summit in Brazil.

Now, Trump is ensuring that U.S. taxpayer funds aren’t used at the discretion of the United Nations and its affiliated organizations.

According to reports, Wednesday’s announcement caught top UN diplomats off guard, who learned of the changes via media and social channels without any formal notification from the administration.

Organizations affected include the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), the UN Human Rights Council, and UNESCO, the cultural agency.

The U.S. has also halted all operations with several UN regional commissions across different continents.

Previously, Trump had cut off support for the World Health Organization based in Geneva.

The U.S. is the largest single contributor to the UN’s budget and hosts its headquarters on an extensive campus in Manhattan.

This yearly financial support, which includes mandatory fees and voluntary contributions, varies but is significant, contributing to programs like the World Food Program and UNHCR.

Now, all of this will be under review.
