Former Argentine President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner has been barred from entering the country by the US government following allegations of “serious corruption.”

On Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement announcing the ban on Fernandez. Her planning minister Julio Miguel de Vido and both families are also prohibited.

“Fernandez and de Vido have adjusted from multiple bribery schemes, including public works contracts, which have benefited financially and abused their position by bringing millions of dollars stolen from the Argentine government,” Rubio said.

He went on to say multiple courts have convicted the pair of corruption.

“The United States will continue to promote accountability for those who abuse public power for their personal interest,” Rubio said. “These designations reaffirm our commitment to combating global corruption, including the highest levels of government.”

In November, Argentine judiciary supported Fernandez's six-year prison term and a lifetime ban from office.

The three courts convicted and sentenced the former president in 2022 for fraud conspiracy to embezzle millions of dollars from public works projects when she was president. She appealed, but the High Court upheld the initial decision.

Fernandez has denied all allegations and is not in prison.

Fernandez, a former leftist Argentine president from 2007 to 2015, is a critic of the voices of libertarian President Javier Miley and US President Donald Trump.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Fernandez, who served as vice president for four years until 2023, tried to change his focus to Mairay and Trump.

“You left a print on this,” she wrote in a lengthy post, referring to Milei.
