U.S. Men’s Hockey Team Wins Gold at Milan-Cortina Olympics
The U.S. men’s hockey team achieved a significant milestone on Sunday, securing a 2-1 overtime win against Team Canada in the Olympic gold medal match held in Milan-Cortina.
Jack Hughes netted the decisive goal, marking the United States’ first men’s hockey gold since the iconic “Miracle on Ice” victory in 1980.
“We deserve it,” stated Matthew Tkachuk during an exclusive interview. He expressed his exhilaration over their recent celebrations, adding that he and his teammates are immensely proud to represent America.
Brady Tkachuk reflected on the emotional connection he felt while playing alongside his brother Matthew, saying, “I never dreamed I would be in this position, but to share this experience with my other 23 brothers is something I wouldn’t change for the world.”
The team had a moment to voice their feelings after meeting with President Trump at the White House.
Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was thoughtful about the victory’s impact, conveying that he would need time to process it all. “This has been the most enjoyable experience of my life,” he said, highlighting the pride they felt representing their country.
Historically, Canada has dominated Olympic hockey with nine gold medals. The U.S. triumph on Sunday served as a form of redemption after losing to Canada in the previous year’s NHL 4 Nations Faceoff Exhibition.
Matthew Tkachuk elaborated on the overwhelming support they felt, noting that even from miles away, the Americans’ love and encouragement were palpable. “Representing the greatest country in the world on that stage was just amazing,” he added.
Dylan Larkin and Zach Werenski also appeared on “Fox & Friends” shortly after their victory, sharing insights about the honor of wearing the U.S. colors.
Larkin spoke to the pride instilled in them during their days with the U.S. National Team Development Program, emphasizing how representing the United States is always special for him. “Every time I get a chance to put on that jersey, I give it my all,” he said.
Following their triumph, President Trump invited the team to his State of the Union address, acknowledging their outstanding achievement. The excitement and camaraderie among the players underscore the significance of this historic win.
