U.S. Conducts Self-Defense Strikes in Southern Iran

U.S. forces have carried out strikes in southern Iran, which they describe as “self-defense,” according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for CENTCOM, stated that these actions were taken “to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces.” He detailed that the targets included missile launch sites and Iranian vessels that were reportedly trying to deploy mines.

This announcement comes at a time when the U.S. and Iran are attempting to negotiate a long-lasting peace agreement. Interestingly, the president shared a positive update on social media about these discussions, indicating they are “proceeding nicely.”

A ceasefire between the two nations has been in effect since early April, although there have been some minor conflicts during this period.

“U.S. Central Command continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire,” Hawkins commented.

On February 28th, the U.S. and Israel began strikes against Iran, marking the start of Operation Epic Fury, aimed at countering the Islamic Republic. Since the escalation of hostilities, the Strait of Hormuz has been nearly shut down, with the threat of mines and attacks from Iranian forces seriously impeding transit. This situation has become a crucial sticking point in ongoing negotiations.

Additionally, U.S. naval forces have established a blockade around Iranian ports, significantly impacting the country’s economy.
