U.S. forces recently dismantled two floating refueling stations associated with the Ecuadorian crime group, Los Choneros, in a pair of operations, as reported by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).
These operations took place in the Eastern Pacific on September 15 and 16, where the Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere (JTF-WHEM) intercepted the vessels. Intelligence indicated that these boats were linked to a violent narco-terrorist organization. Before sinking both stations, U.S. forces evacuated the crew.
SOUTHCOM mentioned that the individuals from both vessels have either been transferred to Ecuadorian authorities or are in the process of doing so.
“Together with our Ecuadorian allies, we are committed to pursuing narco-terrorists who exploit our communities, jeopardize regional security, and bring about death and suffering,” stated General Francis Donovan, Commander of SOUTHCOM, in a statement. He added, “This precise and lawful operation is aimed at saving lives and enhancing the safety of our citizens, from Ecuador to the United States.”
This initiative underscores the strengthening collaboration between the U.S. and countries within the Western Hemisphere, working to dismantle networks that pose a threat to the region.
