Officials from the State Department have revealed that the US is stepping back from its role in the peace discussions between Russia and Ukraine, signaling a shift in its approach to ending the prolonged conflict.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce shared with reporters that the US does not plan to act as a mediator, citing frustrations expressed by President Donald Trump regarding the negotiations.

“We’re not going to travel the world wearing hats to mediate meetings,” she commented, while asserting that the US remains committed to supporting the development of a peace agreement.

“This is now primarily between the two parties involved to come up with concrete proposals for resolving the situation,” Bruce emphasized.

This announcement follows a significant agreement between the US and Ukraine related to mineral resources, aimed at creating a shared investment fund beneficial to both nations. The US could potentially access funds in exchange for military resources, training, or technology sent to assist Ukraine’s military.

Currently, military aid approved by the Biden administration is anticipated to conclude in June. Should the GOP-controlled House choose to approve further aid, the prospects are still uncertain.

Nonetheless, Ukraine continues to procure military supplies directly from American manufacturers. Recently, the State Department confirmed it had authorized a license for exporting defense materials and services to Ukraine, valued at over $50 million.

As reported by the New York Post, Ukraine aims to leverage this mineral trade to encourage the US government to provide military hardware, something the White House has been cautious about in the past.

Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently commented that it is ultimately up to Russia and Ukraine to find a resolution to the conflict.

“They are the ones who will need to negotiate and conclude this brutal conflict,” Vance stated on Fox News, adding, “I’m not going anywhere.” He also indicated that the resolution isn’t imminent.

“Yes, Ukrainians are justifiably upset about the invasion, but continuing to lose thousands of soldiers and territory isn’t sustainable,” he remarked.
