Rugby Drama Involving US Player
There’s been quite a stir in the rugby world lately, and it’s not just overseas—America is part of the mix!
Aleph Kelter, a prominent player on the US women’s rugby team, was ejected from Saturday’s match against Australia after an incident where she stepped on her opponent’s head.
As a result, Kelter is disqualified from the game and will need to attend a judicial hearing, which could lead to a significant suspension.
This incident occurred in the 79th minute of the Pacific 4 Series when official Amy Barrett Talon ruled that Kelter deliberately stomped on the head of Australian player Georgie Friedrich.
Barrett Talon stated, “12 Blue [Kelter], this is an intentional and extremely dangerous foul, so you’ll be receiving a permanent red card.” She further added, “It’s clearly a reckless act.”
The match concluded with Australia defeating the US, with a score of 27-19.
While Kelter might have been aiming for a win, her actions raise concerns about the representation of the US on an international stage. It’s disappointing—this isn’t the image we want to project, right?
Let’s hope for better judgment moving forward, Aleph. This incident shouldn’t define us.
