On Friday’s MSNBC show “Inside with Jen Psaki,” Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said that the military operation to build a pier to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza is being carried out by the U.S. military. He said it was a mission “that we knew” was invading Gaza. The head of the mission said: “Hamas may come to harm you. But after this week’s events, anyone working in humanitarian aid is left wondering if they are facing harm from the IDF.” So we should see a dramatic uptake in Israel and be able to provide humanitarian aid to people who are suffering.”
Mr Kane said: “What we need to see is whether the pace of humanitarian aid to suffering Gazans can be dramatically increased and whether it can be done safely.” What NGOs would feel comfortable working in when they saw that? And again, even in this U.S. military operation, these were sent out of Virginia from Fort Eustis, Virginia, to be in charge of this maritime pier operation. We knew at the time of the announcement that they could be at risk from Hamas. But after this week’s events, anyone working in humanitarian aid , they will wonder if they are being harmed by the IDF. So we should see a dramatic uptake in Israel, allowing humanitarian aid to those who are suffering.”
