U.S. Women’s Open: Everything you need to know, including TV, Tee Times, and more

The biggest tournament in women’s professional golf has arrived.

The U.S. Women’s Open is held at Lancaster Country Club, where the world’s best female players gathered in 2015. That year, South Korean Jeong Ji-woo won with stunning birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.

Since then, Chun has become a fixture in the Lancaster community. She started a foundation to support Lancaster Country Club employees and their dependents with educational scholarships. As a result, the Central Pennsylvania community has embraced her wholeheartedly and calls Chun one of their own.

But the town is welcoming the tournament, which is set to break attendance records and set new standards for volunteer numbers, with hospitality packages selling out months in advance.

The William Flynn designed course plays at 6,500 to 6,700 yards with greens measuring 11.5 on the stimpmeter. The United States Golf Association (USGA) cuts the rough from 2.5 to 4 inches on Wednesdays and increases it to 5 to 6 inches on weekends. This is a classic old school golf course with dramatic elevation changes and amazing views. Each hole is unique and this beautiful course is a place to challenge the best female players in the world while also entertaining others.

But this year’s tournament will add a new category: women’s professional golf. Ally Financial has partnered with the USGA to increase the total prize money to $12 million, a record for women’s golf. In 2015, the USGA awarded competitors $4.5 million in prize money.

On top of that, the two biggest news stories this week involve Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson.

Korda, who has won six of her last seven LPGA events, is looking to win her second consecutive major title in Lancaster, which would mark the most successful season since Annika Sorenstam won 10 tournaments, including two majors, in 2005.

Now, at 29, Thompson has made the shocking announcement that she will retire from professional golf at the end of this season. She made her professional golf debut at the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open when she was just 12 years old, and the Florida native has played in the tournament every time since, so she felt the announcement was necessary now.
