UAE Blames Iran for Attacks on ADNOC Vessels

The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of launching attacks on its state oil company, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), with another incident reported while a vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz. This marks the third such event within just a week.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the Iranian attacks targeting ADNOC vessels, stating that there were no injuries reported in the latest confrontation.

According to reports, one of ADNOC’s ships was hit on Friday, but the situation was said to be under control.

The UAE emphasized that this attack represents a serious breach of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which upholds the significance of free navigation and condemns any targeting of commercial vessels and obstruction of international shipping routes. The ministry characterized the actions as piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and a direct threat to not only the region but also global energy security.

This incident occurred shortly after the UAE accused Iran of two prior attacks on ADNOC tankers in the same waterway. While these earlier attacks caused minor damage, again, no injuries were reported.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps has previously warned of potential actions against vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that do not comply with Iranian directives or are associated with its adversaries. Iran has also maintained that it will continue to exert control over the strait unless the United States meets its outlined conditions to resolve the ongoing conflict.

Anwar Gargash, an advisor to UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stated through social media that the UAE will take measures to defend itself amid the ongoing threats.

Gargash noted that despite the recurrent attacks on ADNOC tankers, the UAE is committed to a balanced approach grounded in deterrence, diplomacy, and adherence to international law. He emphasized the country’s intent to uphold freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in line with international regulations and to secure its sovereignty while prioritizing diplomatic avenues.
