A parking lot attendant at Long Island's UBS Arena was arrested for allegedly scamming hockey fans and concert attendees into making personal payments.
A 26-year-old patron in Queens made 125 parking payments to his Venmo account dating back to April 17, according to a complaint filed with the Nassau County Sheriff's Office. It is said that it was aimed at court.
His plot failed on January 12 when his shift supervisor overheard him soliciting payments from patrons to a Venmo account he had set up under the username “Martingrey00.” , the complaint said.
Supervisors spoke with a patron who claimed Brown told her to pay $30 into her Venmo account “to save on fees.”
The history of Brown's Venmo account revealed that this is not the first time he has allegedly pulled off the same scheme, and that he has never transferred funds to Arena's coffers.
He also allegedly never disclosed any shady dealings in Arena's business records.
Brown was arrested Jan. 14 and charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, according to the complaint.
He has pleaded not guilty, court records show.
During his plea before Judge Michelle Johnson a day later, he was released and placed under the supervision of a pretrial services officer, the DA's office said.
His next appearance is scheduled for February 21st.
