The ban on nuts and bananas is said to protect people in the camp with severe food allergies.
Last week, this reporter was told by guards at the gate not to bring food or nuts into the camp before being assaulted by camp activists. Guards also require anyone entering the encampment to wear a KN95 mask.
The encampment was attacked and damaged by pro-Israel vigilantes overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday. For nearly a week, pro-Palestinian activists have been forcibly removing members of the public and media from public spaces near Royce Hall in the center of campus. They also used extremist anti-Israel and anti-Semitic slogans.
Activists who violently occupied Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall also demanded food and water on Tuesday before the New York City Police Department (NYPD) forcibly removed them from the premises in a raid later that night.
UCLA canceled classes Wednesday after an overnight violence incident. It’s unclear whether it will be canceled Thursday.
