Dan Hurley wants everyone to know that the Big East has been robbed.

On Sunday, after looking at his conference’s performance in contrast to other conferences, the UW head coach said he was satisfied with the committee’s decision to exclude Big East teams, specifically St. John’s and Seton Hall. He said no.

“Look at what we did in the non-conference games. Seton Hall beat us by 15 points. We won eight straight games in this tournament, all by big margins. , they did enough to beat us, they did enough to win.” “We beat Marquette. There were supposed to be five or six Big East teams in this tournament,” he said on Sunday at UW. Hurley said after the team advanced to the Sweet 16.

Only three Big East teams made the NCAA Tournament, all of which advanced to the Sweet 16. UConn, Marquette and Creighton are the 1-, 2-, and 3-seeds, respectively, in the tournament but did not make the conference. Nothing else can beat the field of 68.

Before the NCAA Tournament, fans were arguing that at least the other Big East programs should have played.

The Red Storm, who reached the Big East semifinals and lost to UConn, were the No. 25 team in the KenPom ratings, college basketball’s bible of March Madness. They were the highest-rated team by KenPom to miss the tournament. Seton Hall didn’t rank that high (63rd), but as Hurley pointed out, it beat both UW and Marquette during the regular season.

When Virginia lost in the First Four to Colorado State, Hurley seemed to have a point, saying the other big conferences “underperformed.” The SEC went 2-6 in the first round, with No. 3 Kentucky losing to No. 14 Oakland and No. 4 Auburn losing to No. 13 Yale.

“A mistake was made,” Hurley added. “It’s the worst.”
