Fight Breaks Out at Wrestling Event Involving UFC Fighters

A significant altercation erupted on Saturday involving top UFC contenders during a wrestling event. UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan, ranked No. 2, was facing off against Real American Freestyle Wrestling’s Giorgio Poulas when things took a turn for the worse in the closing moments.

Right after their match, Tsarukyan was visibly agitated, shoving Poulas before throwing punches as chaos ensued on the mat. Supporters from both fighters rushed in, escalating the situation. Thankfully, officials stepped in to prevent further confrontation.

Amid the melee, it was reported that fights among spectators also began. UFC fighter Colby Covington was seen escorting Poulas away from the scene while the crowd cheered loudly, chanting “USA!”

When the dust settled, Tsarukyan had managed to edge out a 5-3 victory over Poulas. The skirmish reportedly began after Poulas had struck Tsarukyan in the head, making him understandably uncomfortable and likely contributing to the post-match fracas.

Tsarukyan later expressed what had transpired with Poulas, urging him to “go around and find out” about the situation. Notably, Poulas has been accused of similar tactics in previous wrestling bouts, drawing attention and commentary from MMA figures like former welterweight champion Belal Muhammad.

Tsarukyan is currently on a solid winning streak, boasting five consecutive victories in the UFC, including a notable submission win against Dan Hooker last November. His performance in that fight even earned him a bonus for “Performer of the Night.”

Before his recent win against Poulas, Tsarukyan had also triumphed over Charles Oliveira and knocked out Beneil Dariush in December 2023. With a career record of 23-3, he’s eyeing a title shot against the current lightweight champion, Ilya Topria, in the foreseeable future.
