UK Announces Crackdown on Online Retailers to Combat Knife Crime

In response to the British knife crime epidemic, the Labour government has announced new, more severe penalties for online retailers for the sale of knives to minors or the sale of banned blades.

UK Home Office I said On Wednesday, the government will introduce new restrictions on online retailers for the sale and supply of knives. To commemorate 16-year-old Ronan Kanda, he was called “Ronan's Law” and was I was murdered With a knife by fellow schoolmate Prabjeet Veadhesa in 2022, the law extends the current prison sentence of six months to sell the knife to minors up to two years.

The penalty could apply to either the “person who processed the sale or the CEO of the company,” the Home Office said in a statement. The two-year sentence also applies to retailers who sell or supply recently banned weapons, such as “zombie-style” knives.

Additionally, online retailers need to notify police of “a suspicious look purchase of knife on the platform” to prevent reselling of products on social media. Furthermore, following consultations later this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs said the government may consider implementing an online retailer registration scheme and limit the sale of knives to only “responsible sellers.”

Turning to the actual perpetrators of crimes, the government said it would add a new crime to the crime and police bill, “possessing offensive weapons aimed at violence.”

The clause means anyone with a weapon determined to have “intention to cause violence” will face it in prison for up to four years.

Interior Secretary Yvette Cooper said:

“It has not been enough to tackle the online market in recent years, and that's why we have become an urgent priority in our manifesto. Today's measures are to be taken to ensure that new dedicated police forces chase after those who are breaking the law. It's supported by investment. And when you put your kids and teenagers, you're at risk.”

In recent months, the media and government have put a lot of focus on the supposed role of online retailers in the UK's knife crime epidemic, triggering the Southport Mass stabbed by Southport Mass in June last year.

Legacy Media quickly branded him as “Amazon Killer” as second-generation Rwandan immigrant Axel Ludakbana purchased the knife used in the Amazon attack. This was despite Ludakbana being influenced by radical Islamic terrorism and admitting he had previously held a knife from the family's kitchen to school.

Nevertheless, rather than considering the role that immigrants may have played in the attack, it is pointing out the issue of foreign retailers, which is suitable for both founding media and left-wing governments. It looked like that.
