UK Leaders Warn About the Loss of Christian Foundations in Britain

Surveys Indicate That Many Jews Feel Unsafe as Antisemitism Grows

Britain appears to be waking up to the potential consequences of distancing itself from its Judeo-Christian heritage. A recent opinion poll revealed that 52 percent of respondents believe the nation “will be doing a disservice to future generations” by continuing this trend.

Additionally, 58 percent think that Christianity has a role in how Britain is governed.

Leaders discuss Britain’s Christian heritage

During a recent conference titled ‘Resurrection of Christianity: Hope after Emancipation’ in Oxford, a diverse group of Christian leaders, scholars, and public figures deliberated on how Europe’s Judeo-Christian roots have shaped civilization and what lies ahead for Britain.

Andrew Hawkins, the CEO of Whitestone Insights, noted that the poll highlights pivotal issues for politics, churches, and society. He raised a question: “Can we foster moral renewal together, or will our focus continue to be on polarization and identity politics?”

John Cleese, the British actor and writer, has expressed particular concern about the increasing influence of Islam in the UK. In a post on social media, he remarked, “Despite the many mistakes the church has made… if these values were replaced by Islamic values, this would no longer be Britain.”

Vice President J.D. Vance addresses EU concerns

At the Munich Security Conference on February 7, 2025, J.D. Vance alerted the EU to a “threat from within,” expressing his worries about Europe’s departure from its core values, which align with those of the United States. While he faced backlash initially, support for his viewpoint is growing.

Baroness Philippa Stroud, from the House of Lords and the Coalition for Responsible Citizens, agreed with Vance, questioning what there is to protect if Western civilization doesn’t value its foundational principles. She underscored the significance of “rediscovering our heritage,” particularly Judeo-Christian values, and cautioned against forgetting the lessons from the ruins of ancient Rome and Greece.

Bishop urges King Charles to act

Bishop Kayrion H. Dewar FSHC wrote an open letter to King Charles, urging him to recognize and protect the foundations of Christianity in the kingdom. The letter gained attention, accumulating 2 million views and 56,000 likes.

He called for action to safeguard the nation’s Christian heritage.
