London, UK:
The UK Labour Party announced on Saturday that it has suspended MP Dan Norris following his arrest on charges of sexual offences against a girl and rape.
Authorities reported that a man in his 60s was taken into custody on Friday over suspicions of sexual crimes including the abduction of a girl, as well as misconduct in a public office.
“Most of the alleged crimes reportedly took place during the 2000s, but we are also looking into reported rape incidents from the 2020s,” the police stated.
Labour confirmed late Saturday that they had suspended MPs in Somerset and Hanham, situated in the northeastern region of southwest England.
“Dan Norris has been immediately suspended by the Labour Party after we were made aware of his arrest. We are unable to comment on the ongoing police investigation,” a party spokesperson noted.
Norris, who is 65 years old, was elected to Congress in 2024, winning against the well-known Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg.
He previously served in Parliament and held the position of junior minister under former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
