British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer recognizes the reasoning behind President Donald Trump’s tariffs and declared on Sunday that the West is transitioning into a new economic landscape.
“The world has shifted, globalization has ended, and we are entering a new phase,” the Prime Minister’s Office stated in a release to the Times on Sunday. “We need to show that our strategy, a more proactive labor government, and a more reformist government can meet the needs of people across this nation.”
This announcement follows Trump’s introduction of new tariffs affecting numerous nations worldwide on Wednesday.

The Sunday Times article reports that although the priority remains to argue against tariffs, the prime minister also admits to understanding the reasoning behind Trump’s actions and why such policies resonate with the electorate.
“Trump has enacted something we oppose, yet there is a reason why many support him in this regard,” the Prime Minister’s Office stated.
Saturday’s address is expected to underscore the perceived failures of free trade and large-scale immigration, which the report suggests did not benefit millions of voters.

Musk expresses desire for “zero tariffs”, a trade liberation zone between the US and Europe
In the meantime, the report notes that Trump associate Elon Musk seems to have been publicly aligned with the president during a video interview at an event in Italy on Saturday.
“Ultimately, I hope that both Europe and the US will ideally transition to a zero-tariff framework and work toward establishing a free trade area between Europe and North America,” he stated.
Musk also expressed a desire for increased “freedom” between the two regions, which starkly contrasts with Trump’s strict stance on immigration.

“That’s my hope, and if they desire, to enhance the freedom for those traveling between Europe and North America,” Musk commented. “If they wish to work in Europe or America, I believe they should have the opportunity to do so. That was my recommendation to the President.”
