Secretary Rubio clarifies US position on Russia, Ukraine conflict
From Manama, Bahrain, Secretary Rubio emphasized that the recent discussions regarding an agreement with Russia over Ukraine are merely proposals, not finalized deals. He reiterated the commitment of the United States to actively seek a resolution to the ongoing conflict, highlighting the significant number of casualties, particularly among Russian forces, and the overall devastating impact of the war.
As the conflict continues to intensify, Ukraine has launched extensive nighttime strikes targeting numerous Russian regions, including Crimea. This operation marks one of the largest drone assaults on Ukraine since the escalation of the conflict. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that their air defense managed to intercept around 660 Ukrainian drones, a notable increase compared to Ukraine’s previous largest attack which involved 556 drones last month.
Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin indicated that 47 Ukrainian drones were intercepted before reaching the capital.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that out of seven Iskander-M ballistic missiles, four managed to bypass air defenses and strike various targets, while they claimed to have intercepted 174 of 189 Russian drones during the night.
Despite the protracted nature of the war, both nations are engaging in a prisoner exchange. Recent announcements revealed that 160 individuals would be repatriated from both sides.
Russia readies for a hybrid attack on NATO’s eastern flank
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared that 160 military personnel were freed from Russian captivity, all of whom had been detained since 2022. He acknowledged the efforts of those involved in the release during a post on social media.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the teams dedicated to bringing home Ukrainians, including those still held captive. He emphasized the need to ensure every individual, military and civilian, is accounted for and returned safely.
