Ukraine Rejects Ceasefire with Russia at Davos ‘Peace’ Summit

At a so-called peace summit in Davos, Switzerland, ahead of the World Economic Forum's annual meeting, Ukrainian officials vowed to continue the war with Russia until Russia returns all occupied territory.

Switzerland hosted a conference in Davos on Sunday with 81 representatives of countries and international organizations to discuss a formula “for a lasting and just peace in Ukraine.”The meeting was attended by U.S. officials from the Biden administration, including Penny Pritzker, U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine's Economic Recovery, and James O'Brien, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Reuters. report.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is scheduled to speak at a globalist World Economic Forum meeting later this week, and was represented at the meeting by Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration. No Kremlin officials were present.

After the meeting, Mr. Yermak (pictured above, right) rejected the concept of a ceasefire between his country and Russia, insisting that Russia could only strengthen its military in case of another attack on Ukraine in the future.

“It is definitely not the path to peace. Russians do not want peace. They want domination. Therefore, the choice is simple: either lose and disappear, or win and continue to live. And we are fighting,” Yermak said. I have written on his personal Telegram channel.

“If international law and Ukraine's territorial integrity are not restored, aggressors from all over the world will tomorrow be able to occupy parts of any country and hold fake elections there. It must guarantee the survival, integrity, sovereignty and development of Ukraine and must prevent a recurrence of aggression. “We have built a comprehensive framework. Its elements are closely related and this is the only way forward,” Yermak continued.

Advisor Zelensky went on to praise the supposed successes of the Ukrainian military in the past two years of war, saying that it had recaptured 50 percent of all territory occupied by Russia since February 2022.

However, while this claim may be technically true, the reality is that such vast territory was only occupied by Russia for a few days or weeks at the beginning of the conflict, and after that the conflict remained largely static. The situation remains the same, and Ukraine will manage to maintain it. regaining dozens of square miles compared to the tens of thousands of square miles still under Moscow's control.

Although Kiev's much-vaunted “Spring Counteroffensive” failed to retake key territory captured by heavily entrenched Russian forces last year, Zelenskiy's government remains confident that Russia will withdraw and the 1991 border with Ukraine He insists that he will not even consider entering into negotiations with the Kremlin until he recovers. This means Russia will have to withdraw from heavily entrenched positions in the Donbas countries as well as Crimea, which President Vladimir Putin has annexed and controlled since 2014.

President Zelenskiy emphasized this position in his New Year's address, vowing that Ukraine will fight until “Crimea, Donbass, Luhansk region, Berdyansk, Melitopol and Mariupol” are liberated from Russian occupation.

Another key impasse in potential negotiations may be that Ukraine remains keen to join the US-led NATO military alliance, but Russia announced two years ago that this posed an existential threat to Russia. It is cited as a reason to justify launching an invasion. President Zelenskiy on Sunday reiterated his intention to join NATO.

Ahead of the Davos meeting, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed Zelenskiy's proposed peace formula as nothing more than “a series of ultimatums to Russia.” according to This was reported to the state news agency TASS.

“They are trying to force us to withdraw from liberated areas and leave behind the Russian people who voted for unification with the Motherland at the mercy of the Ukrainian Nazis. “This kind of ultimatum cannot form the basis for starting negotiations,” she said.
