UN called to take action as Hamas video reveals Israeli hostage starving in Gaza tunnel

Urgent Call for Action Following Distressing Hostage Video

Elay David, brother of 22-year-old hostage Iviatar David, is demanding immediate international intervention after a harrowing video surfaced, showing his frail brother digging his own grave inside a Hamas tunnel.

Israel is seeking urgent sessions with the Security Council as the ongoing crisis escalates, coinciding with the potential full annexation of Gaza. The urgency is heightened by the breakdown of ceasefire talks and troubling images of hostages in dire conditions.

Eviatar David was taken hostage during the Nova Music Festival on October 7, 2024. In the new footage, he appears alarmingly thin, weighing only 90 pounds, and struggles to articulate his situation.

In response to the distressing video, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his outrage over the treatment of the hostages and the graphic nature of the footage.

Elay David shared his distress during a remote Zoom conference, recalling how his family reacted to the shocking video. He said, “My mother and I couldn’t bear to watch it, but my dad and sister did.” He also cited accounts from former hostages, indicating that the captors remain nearby and are intentionally starving their prisoners as a “sick and twisted propaganda campaign.”

“This is a humanitarian crisis and a hostage crisis that isn’t receiving the attention it deserves,” he lamented. “It’s like the very essence of humanity is being harmed by Hamas’ reckless actions.”

The UN Security Council convened following the shocking video release, with Israel affirming that around 20 hostages are still alive and being held by Hamas. Many of these individuals are in grave danger, facing an uncertain fate in the coming days.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar underscored during a New York session that while Israel aims to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, Hamas’s actions are deliberately compromising the well-being of the hostages.

“Eviatar was forced to dig his grave, which is monstrous,” he stated. “These crimes mirror the atrocities committed by the Nazis and ISIS.”

Sa’ar also raised concerns about countries moving to unilaterally acknowledge a Palestinian state, suggesting this could inadvertently support Hamas and hinder ceasefire efforts. “These nations have effectively incentivized continued conflict,” he remarked.

Concluding his address, Elai David proclaimed his family’s unwavering determination: “We will not give up hope. We’re suffering, yes, but we are battling fiercely for Eviatar’s return.” He pleaded with global leaders, stating that their inaction amid such cruelty is complicit. “I urge you—don’t let them die. Act now.”

In a separate comment, President Trump called the situation “terrifying” when pressed by reporters about the video during a White House briefing.
