Pirated Copy of Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey Leaked Online
A pirated version of Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film, Odyssey, surfaced on X, quickly attracting millions of views before being taken down due to copyright violations.
The unauthorized copy appeared on Saturday and gained approximately 2.1 million views in just two and a half hours before platform moderators intervened. One user couldn’t believe it, saying, “Someone uploaded Odyssey! The full movie is available on X.”
Even after the initial leak, copies continued to emerge. By Sunday, another version had accumulated about 50,000 views before it was also removed, according to reports.
By Monday, a video was making the rounds claiming to be an illegal copy of The Odyssey, but it instead turned out to be a “rickroll,” a classic internet joke that misleads people into watching Rick Astley’s famous music video for “Never Gonna Give You Up.” This one was especially lengthy, looping over two hours of music.
In a humorous response to the leaking of the film, one user remarked beneath the deleted post, “The whole Odyssey movie is in a tweet, just like Nolan intended.”
A representative from Universal Pictures stated that the studio is committed to protecting its intellectual property and will pursue all necessary legal actions against copyright violations.
“We take copyright infringement seriously and will take all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights,” the spokesperson commented.
Despite the unauthorized copies circulating online, Nolan’s adaptation is performing exceptionally well at the box office, generating $87 million in its second weekend and a total of $652 million globally within just ten days. Current estimates suggest it could reach $1.3 billion by the end of its theater run.
“With strong word of mouth and a high demand for large-format screenings like IMAX, Odyssey is expected to set numerous records throughout the summer and into the fall,” reports indicate. There’s even a chance it could surpass the box office totals of Nolan’s previous hits, The Dark Knight ($1.008 billion) and The Dark Knight Rises ($1.08 billion).
