Unauthorized Immigration Fuels Britain's £250 Billion Underground Economy: Report

UK’s Black Market Driven by Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigrants are significantly contributing to the UK’s growing black market economy, which now exceeds 1 trillion pounds annually, according to a report.

A forthcoming report from the Independent National Center for Social Studies (NATCEN) indicates that involvement in the black market has surged by 80% since 2016. Currently, roughly one in ten adults in the UK participates in this underground economy.

Reports suggest this expansion has transformed the black market into a staggering £260 billion industry, allowing criminal enterprises to evade approximately £2.2 billion in taxes each year. Social research agencies have highlighted the crisis of illegal immigration as a key factor driving the rapid growth of the black market.

French prosecutor Pascal Marconville has previously noted that people smuggling networks, operating across the English Channel, often recruit desperate individuals to work in the UK’s underground economy, including cannabis farms and various illicit businesses.

A 2020 study from the Center for Social Justice also linked illegal immigration to exploitative labor in the fashion industry, particularly highlighting the presence of modern slavery in cities like Leicester.

In the context of this crisis, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer campaigned last year with a promise to dismantle the criminal gangs responsible for illegal immigration. However, the number of undocumented migrants making their way to the UK from French shores continues to rise, with record figures surpassing 16,000.

Criticism arose towards the Labour party when they claimed that the majority of illegal immigrants crossing the channel were women and children, a statement contradicted by government statistics showing that over 70% of these migrants were men.

Responding to the report, Nigel Farage remarked that British citizens are being misled about the state of the country’s borders. He asserted that due to the actions of both Labour and Conservative administrations, those entering the UK will keep working in the extensive black market.

Farage expressed concern about the implications of nearly 40,000 boat migrants arriving since the Labour government took power, and he questioned how many are already engaged in untaxed black market activities.

“The UK is experiencing social and economic decline,” he said. “Taxpayers who follow the rules feel increasingly overlooked. While some of these immigrants may be victims of exploitation, they also contribute to the criminal economy. The exploitative employers benefit financially at the expense of British workers.”

He further advocated for an immediate deportation policy for anyone who has entered the country illegally, critiquing the European Court of Human Rights for complicating deportation efforts.

In concluding remarks, Farage ridiculed Starmer’s handling of the situation, stating that while he vowed to tackle gang-related crimes, he has only succeeded in creating record numbers of illegal immigrants.
