RNC Chair Comments on Musk’s Breitbart Plans

TAMPA, Fla. — During an exclusive interview at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit, Republican National Committee (RNC) chair Michael Whatley shared his thoughts on Elon Musk’s initiative to launch Breitbart News.

When asked for his take on Musk’s plans, Whatley mentioned he would “wait and see” how it unfolds.

“If Elon wants to shift the Republicans further to the right while he runs in the primary, that doesn’t really keep me up at night,” he said.

He noted that there’s an ongoing debate among Republicans regarding whether to concentrate more on economic issues or social ones. “I’m quite comfortable with us shifting a bit left or right,” he remarked.

However, Whatley expressed that if Musk aimed to launch an initiative aimed at defeating Republicans in the general election and helping Democrats, that would change things significantly.

“It’s a completely different scenario,” the chairman elaborated. “I want to observe how this evolves for him, but I’m also focused on what we can control.”

He emphasized the importance of recruiting and training strong candidates, alongside developing the necessary grassroots infrastructure for voting and ensuring election integrity. “That’s what we can manage right now,” Whatley stated.

He added that the investments being made for next year are crucial, underscoring the need to improve the overall environment. “Ultimately, the economy and border issues will matter greatly,” he noted.

Whatley concluded by indicating that the RNC plans to consistently engage in discussions about these topics, aiming for success in the mid-term elections. “We want to make sure we’re amplifying the right messages from a foundational perspective for the campaign,” he stated.
