Park Police Officer Killed in Ambush in Washington, D.C.

On Monday night, a seasoned officer with the Park Police was fatally ambushed by two gunmen while working undercover in Washington, D.C. Authorities have confirmed that the suspects are still at large.

The U.S. Park Police released a statement indicating that the unidentified officer was shot near Queens Stroll Place in southeast Washington at approximately 7:30 p.m.

U.S. Park Police Chief Scott Brecht shared details during a news conference late Monday, describing how the officer was “ambushed” while driving a Tesla in connection with a law enforcement operation.

“During the incident, the officer was hit and managed to drive a bit further down the road, where first aid was provided,” Brecht told reporters.

Authorities reported that the officer, a veteran with the department, sustained injuries to the upper body but was taken to a local hospital via police helicopter with non-life-threatening wounds.

“This is just another example of unnecessary gun violence in our city. No one should be shot and killed while simply driving through a neighborhood, regardless of whether they’re a police officer,” remarked Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll.

Carroll noted that there was evidence suggesting the gunmen were aware they were shooting at the officer, who was in an unmarked vehicle at the time. He also emphasized that there was no exchange of words between the officer and the suspects prior to the shooting.

Currently, investigators are looking for the two suspects, described as black men. One was reportedly wearing a white hoodie and blue jeans, while the other was dressed in all black with white stripes on the sleeves and bottom of the pants.

FBI Director Kash Patel expressed solidarity with the Park Police officer on social media, stating, “We pray for the Park Police officer who was shot. The FBI, along with our law enforcement partners, is actively supporting the investigation and will bring those responsible to justice.”

U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi also took to social media, mentioning that she had been briefed on the situation by D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Chief Carroll. She urged everyone to “please pray for the officer’s recovery.”

Authorities have advised residents to expect a significant police presence in the vicinity of the crime scene as the investigation unfolds.
