Undocumented individual accused of 'physically assaulting' ICE agent during immigration operation: DHS

Serious Injury Reported During Immigration Raid in Houston

The Department of Homeland Security announced that an officer from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement sustained significant facial injuries during an immigration operation in Houston.

A press release from D.H.S. revealed that Walter Leonel Perez Rodriguez, aged 33, was taken into custody on Monday after an interaction with ICE agents.

It’s reported that during this encounter, Rodriguez allegedly resisted arrest and attacked the ICE officer using a metal coffee cup. The officer suffered severe burns and deep cuts to his face, requiring 13 stitches to treat the injuries.

The statement added, “This young police officer’s life was forever changed as a result of the over-politicization of routine law enforcement operations and the circulation of misinformation by various entities opposed to immigration enforcement.”

According to the D.H.S., Rodriguez, a national from El Salvador, had a notable criminal history prior to this incident. He reportedly entered the U.S. illegally multiple times and faced potential deportation previously.

Aside from immigration-related offenses, he had been convicted of serious crimes, including child sexual assault and DUI offenses. D.H.S. emphasized, “Anyone who interferes with our nation’s ICE officers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” Currently, Rodriguez faces charges related to unlawful re-entry and assault on a federal officer.
