The union representing postal workers across the country who will handle millions of ballots as part of the mass mail-in voting system endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president on Thursday.
Voters are being asked to trust an electoral system in which significant parts of the voting process are controlled by organizations loyal to a single candidate.
The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) expressed its support in a press statement:
The nation’s 290,000 active and retired urban letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) are proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz as the next President and Vice President of the United States.
…
As a district attorney, state Attorney General, Senator and Vice President, Kamala Harris is a proven advocate for working families, labor unions and the Postal Service. As a Senator, she played a key role in advocating for vital relief to the Postal Service during the COVID-19 pandemic. She served as Vice President in the administration that signed Postal Service reform legislation into law. She is a fierce defender of civil rights, voting rights and our democratic institutions.
Governor Walz is a union ally and military veteran. He is a former public school teacher and has dedicated his life to public service. As Governor, he has put working families first by instituting paid family and medical leave programs, the child tax credit and free school meals for every Minnesota student.
Pew Research Center Reported In July, we found that Republicans and Democrats still had very different views on voting by mail: 82% of Democrats said voting by mail should be freely available without excuses, while only 37% of Republicans agreed.

Similarly, 63% of Republicans say making it easier to register and vote would make elections less secure, while only 20% of Democrats agree. Universal voting by mail and other changes were imposed in many states in 2020 by judicial order, usually after Democrats sued for reform over Republican objections.
Some Republican-governed states have tightened rules on the practice, but it remains widespread.
Few other democracies in the world use postal voting, and many do not allow absentee voting except in limited circumstances.
