United Airlines Flight Delayed After Live Ammunition Found
A United Airlines flight headed from Denver to San Diego faced a delay on Thursday due to the discovery of live ammunition on board. Passengers were deplaned while security officials conducted a thorough check of the aircraft.
United Flight 1302 was about to take off from Denver International Airport when the bullet was spotted during a routine safety inspection just prior to its departure. According to reports, a crew member announced the situation, stating, “The unfortunate news is that live ammunition was found on the plane. This is a clear security breach, and everyone will need to exit the aircraft.”
It’s even been suggested that a passenger may have boarded the flight using a fraudulent boarding pass, prompting the plane to return to the gate.
As passengers exited the Boeing 737-900 with their carry-on bags, security teams embarked on searching the aircraft. “We need everyone to leave the plane with their belongings. Once it’s empty, we must secure the aircraft,” a crew member said, apologizing for the inconvenience.
The crew reported uncertainty about how the bullet ended up on the aircraft or its origin.
United Airlines confirmed the incident, stating, “United Flight 1302 from Denver to San Diego underwent security checks before departing after a bullet was discovered on board. Security personnel removed the aircraft for further inspection, and it eventually went on to San Diego.”
The flight carried 178 passengers and six crew members. More questions regarding the event were directed to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Initially set to leave Denver around 1:25 p.m. local time, the flight finally took off at approximately 3:41 p.m., over two hours behind schedule.
As of now, it’s unclear who the ammunition belonged to or how it made its way onto the plane.
