United Airlines flights carrying more than 200 people were forced to make an emergency landing at Newar Liberty International Airport early Tuesday, officials said.
According to the airline, Flight 1544 took off from New Jersey Airport just before 6am, but after suffering from mechanical issues it returned to the flight about an hour later.
The plane, which had 176 passengers and six crew members, was on its way to Harry Reed International Airport in Las Vegas at the time.
“The 1544 United Flight to Las Vegas flight went back to Newar Liberty International Airport to address potential mechanical issues,” a United spokesman said in a statement.
“The flight landed safely and all passengers successfully deplanned at the gate.”
“I arranged another aircraft this morning to take the customer to Las Vegas.”
It was not immediately clear which issues led to the emergency landing.
