The suspect in Wednesday's killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson allegedly left a message on the shell casing consisting of the words “defend,” “reject,” and “resign.”

Breitbart News reported that Thompson, 50, was shot and killed just after 6:45 a.m. Wednesday outside the Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan.

Hours after the killing, the New York City Police Department held a press conference stating that it believed the killing was targeted and not random.

He told the suspect:[ignored] There were a lot of other pedestrians,” said Thompson, who approached him from behind and shot him in the back.
