University of Michigan Addresses Sherone Moore’s Dismissal
The president of the University of Michigan has made it clear to the Ann Arbor community: behavior like Sherone Moore’s alleged actions will not be accepted.
Chancellor Domenico Grasso sent a letter to students and faculty on Thursday, just a day after Michigan State let go of Moore. The football head coach was terminated following the discovery of “credible evidence” regarding “an improper relationship with a staff member.”
Moore, who was dismissed for cause, also spent a night in jail on Wednesday due to an assault allegation, although no formal charges have been filed against him yet.
Grasso indicated in his letter that the findings from the university-led investigation were shared with the school a day prior, prompting immediate action against Moore.
“We will not tolerate this behavior at the University of Michigan. None of it,” Grasso wrote, expressing that Coach Moore’s actions have deeply hurt many within the community, particularly those directly affected. “Our quick and decisive response showcases our commitment to fostering a culture of respect, integrity, and accountability on campus.”
He added that the investigation is ongoing, emphasizing the need to uncover all the facts involved.
Moore, who is married with three children, allegedly engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that leading up to Moore’s firing, he had been exhibiting unusual and abusive behavior toward assistant coaches, which was out of character for him.
The investigation into Moore had initially slowed as the regular season came to a close, but picked up momentum in the final days before his dismissal.
Grasso wrapped up his letter by stating his hope for the university’s recovery from this scandal with “integrity and excellence.”
Michigan has appointed Biff Pogge as interim head coach and is set to face Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
