Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a video surfaced that seems to show a man celebrating the moment of the gunshot. The clip, which has gained traction online, features a young individual in a black T-shirt and a backwards baseball cap, who can be seen yelling and pumping his fist soon after the shooting of the young conservative activist at a Utah campus on Wednesday afternoon.
This person appears to be glancing back toward the source of the gunfire.
The unidentified man, sporting long hair and a beard, stood upright while others around him reacted by falling to the ground in response to the shots fired.
One social media user commented, “This guy happened to be where the shooter is and turns around and cheers him on after Charlie Kirk’s lifeless body goes down,” while sharing clips of the alarming incident.
Another individual expressed their disbelief, stating, “After Charlie Kirk was killed, this man cheered. I am at a loss for words.” Yet another user asked rhetorically how someone could be so mentally unwell to react that way after witnessing Kirk’s death.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the video, as the manhunt for Kirk’s assassin continues. Politicians from across the political spectrum have condemned the act of violence.
Authorities have indicated that the shooting was a targeted attack, though a clear motive has yet to be established. The FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office has put out images of people of interest connected to the case.
Footage shared shortly after the gunshot depicts Kirk recoiling from the shot before being rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
In a show of respect, Vice President J.D. and Second Lady Usha Vance altered their travel plans to visit Salt Lake City and pay tribute to Kirk’s family.
