She continued, “Every time there’s a solar eclipse, everyone around the world plays ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’ and I never get tired of singing it.” .
Released in 1983, “Total Eclipse of the Heart” was the debut single from Tyler’s fifth studio album, Faster Than the Speed of Night, which peaked on the U.S. charts. It reached number 1 for 4 weeks.

The song was written and produced by the late Jim Steinman, who worked with other anthemic singers such as Celine Dion and the late Meat Loaf.
“Jim Steinman has written some of the most iconic songs for me, including Meatloaf and Celine Dion. [‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’] I was offered it before Celine Dion. When I first heard the song, I thought, ‘Oh my god, this song is amazing,'” Tyler recalled, adding, “You know, I couldn’t believe he gave me this song.”
According to GMA, Tyler will not be able to see the total solar eclipse in person as he will be traveling by plane, but he said he plans to perform his hit songs at his next tour stop in Finland.

In 2017, Tyler celebrated that year’s solar eclipse by singing “Total Eclipse of the Heart” while onboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise.
Forbes reported that the song had already reached number two on the US iTunes chart prior to the celestial event, and entered YouTube’s top 100 music video chart for the first time, reaching number 84.

The song has skyrocketed in popularity as the United States prepares for today’s total solar eclipse, in which the moon passes in front of the sun during its orbit, temporarily blocking the sun’s light.

Although some areas of the country will only see a partial solar eclipse, the path of the total solar eclipse will cover many major cities, including Dallas, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Rochester, and Cleveland.
