Unrivaled Basketball League announces New York Liberty guard as latest participant

Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier to allow WNBA players to stay in the U.S. during the offseason An unparalleled basketball leagueis a new 3×3 basketball league for the biggest stars in the sport. The league will take place in Miami starting in January and will feature six teams of five players each, for a total of 30 players.

Rather than simply releasing a full roster, the Unrivaled Basketball League has been gradually releasing players' names one by one on social media over the past few months, and on Monday announced Courtney VanderSloot as its newest member.

VanderSloot, the starting point guard for the New York Liberty, is a five-time All-Star and a seven-time WNBA assist leader. She is the second-leading assist leader in WNBA history. This season, the 35-year-old VanderSloot is averaging 6.6 points, 4.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 22.5 minutes per game, helping the Liberty lead the WNBA in scoring.

VanderSloot will be the oldest player in the Unrivaled Basketball League and signals the possibility of other veterans joining in. She has played most of her professional career overseas but is choosing to remain in the United States during the WNBA offseason.

20 WNBA players announce commitment to Unrivaled Basketball League

So far, 20 players representing every WNBA team except the Indiana Fever and Washington Mystics have announced their participation in the Unrivaled Basketball League, with Napheesa Collier already confirming that two of the remaining players are rookies.

Courtney VanderSloot is the second Liberty player to publicly participate, joining teammate and league co-founder Breanna Stewart.
