A recently released image reveals the stark and empty apartment where Brian Kohberger lived while he committed a gruesome crime, taking the lives of four students at the University of Idaho three years ago.
This unsettling evidence photo shows bare walls, empty closets, and a lack of basic fixtures like curtains in the one-bedroom apartment at Washington State University, where he was pursuing a doctorate in criminology.
A collection of images made available by the Idaho State Police included some personal items Kohberger left behind when he fled the state. These items featured a criminology textbook, various papers, seven parking tickets, an election brochure, and a university disciplinary letter.
Among the photos were titles like “Ivory Tower Unsafe: Sexual Damage to a University Woman,” “Why Innocent People Plead Guilty and Become Free of Guilt,” and “A Trial by Ju Trial.”
Additionally, investigators found two birthday cards that were sent just weeks before the murders on November 13, 2022.
One of the cards seemed to come from Kohberger’s parents, with a message suggesting his journey would lead to happiness.
The second card, addressed to “Brian,” featured a cartoon of President Theodore Roosevelt alongside a dinosaur. Some private messages on it had been altered.
A particularly disturbing image showed a whiteboard in his office with the phrases “I’ll take it easily!” and “Don’t give up,” written in black marker.
As for Kohberger, he unexpectedly agreed to a plea deal in July, just before his highly anticipated trial, avoiding the death penalty. This decision drew anger from some families of the victims, who were left without answers about his motives for the horrific acts.
On November 13, 2022, he killed Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin at his off-campus residence in Moscow. Now, Kohberger is serving four life sentences at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Kuna.
