Police said Tuesday that UPS and Amazon trucks were targeted in two armed robberies just 30 minutes apart in southeast Washington, DC.
Metropolitan Police Department reported an armed robbery of a UPS truck driver Tuesday morning in the 1000 block of Cook Drive Southeast. According to Fox 5 DC.
Then, about 30 minutes later, another armed robbery occurred. This time, the target was an Amazon truck driver in the 800 block of Cook Drive Southeast.
“These are very unique times that we’re in,” said Derrick Parks, president and CEO of Metropolitan Protective Services, citing the recent spate of armed vehicle robberies in the area. ” he said.

“We’ve noticed that crimes related to burglary, robberies, carjackings, thefts from motor vehicles, all the items are up,” Parks said.
Parks said he believes delivery drivers are being particularly targeted.
There have been other robberies of delivery truck drivers in the area in recent months.
In November, an Amazon delivery driver was carjacked in Washington, DC.

Police released surveillance footage after alcohol was stolen from the back of a delivery truck in February.
Late last year, a UPS driver in nearby Prince George’s County, Maryland, witnessed a robber drive away in a truck.
“A crime only occurs when three factors come together: motive, means, and opportunity,” Parks said. “We have to find a way to remove one, if not all, of these elements.”
