Upset Female Police Chief Says Video of Violent Cincinnati Mob Lacked 'Context'

Cincinnati Police Address Violent Incident Footage

During a press conference on Monday, Cincinnati Police Department Director Teresa Tegge expressed concerns about the context surrounding a video of a violent brawl that recently surfaced. She argued that the footage had been misrepresented online.

The incident occurred around 3:06 AM on Saturday, when a group of men was seen brutally attacking others in a downtown area, forcing female witnesses to flee the scene in the cold. Tegge criticized social media and mainstream journalists for complicating law enforcement’s ability to effectively address the situation.

“What we see on social media is just one version of events. It’s often a misrepresentation of the entire incident, which hampers our investigation and enforcement,” Tegge stated. She further elaborated that social media can distort reality, making police work even more challenging.

The footage depicts a man being chased in the street, where he is repeatedly kicked, stomped, and assaulted by several individuals. A woman who attempted to help him was also attacked and punched, rendering her unconscious.

Authorities acknowledged they were unaware of the violence until the video gained traction online. According to a witness, a drunken confrontation led to the brawl, with one individual leaving the area only to return later with a group.

Tegge highlighted that the video portrays only “one side of the equation” and lacks essential context and facts. “Social media often shows a skewed perspective and complicates our investigative work,” she remarked.

As of now, five individuals have faced charges related to the incident, with more arrests anticipated. Tegge noted that around 100 witnesses were present but found it “unacceptable” that only one person reported the incident to the police.
