Upstate man charged in shooting death of popular NYC sneaker reseller ‘Upscale Cracc’

A Poughkeepsie man has been charged with shooting and killing a well-known sneaker reseller known as “Upscale Crack,” who was shot multiple times during a robbery in June, police said.

Police said the suspected gunman, Jaquan Straker, 35, was taken into custody Saturday morning on suspicion of murder in the murder of Upscale, whose real name is Javier Osorio Mejia, 31.

According to authorities, Osorio-Mejia, of Bayonne, New Jersey, was shot three times in the right leg at 5:15 a.m. on June 25 in front of a clothing store at 41 Greene St. in SoHo.

The address where the shooting occurred was home to a Stone Island clothing store, but it is unclear what Osorio-Mejia was doing there at the time.

Police said they found Osorio-Mejia at the scene, unconscious and with a wound in his right thigh.

Paramedics rushed Osorio-Mejia to Bellevue Hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Osorio Mejia is remembered as a loving father who brought laughter and smiles wherever he went. According to his obituary.

“Javier had a bright and humble heart and was always willing to help others. He was a well-known shoe reseller who worked his way to the top through hard work and sleepless nights,” the obituary read.

He was also “a wonderful father to a little girl who lived for herself” and loved spending time with his family, according to his obituary.

Authorities said Straker was charged with murder, robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.
