US and UAE complete agreement on technology framework, according to reports

DUBAI – On May 15, 2025, the United States and the United Arab Emirates are set to finalize a technology framework agreement, which is expected to be signed later today as President Donald Trump concludes his three-nation tour of the Gulf region, according to a knowledgeable source.

The agreement involves mutual commitments regarding technology security, as per insights shared.

This deal is particularly significant for the UAE, aiming to establish itself as a leader in artificial intelligence, especially given that the U.S. has been adopting more protectionist measures to limit China’s access to cutting-edge semiconductors.

As of now, inquiries directed at the White House, the U.S. Commerce Department, and the foreign ministries of both the UAE and China have gone unanswered.

Earlier reports indicated that the agreement would permit the UAE to import 500,000 advanced AI chips from Nvidia each year starting in 2025.
