The U.S. women’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay team won the silver medal in the final Saturday night at La Defense Arena in Paris.
The U.S. was unable to beat rival Australia, who won the gold medal in 3:28.92, while the U.S. team finished in 3:30.20.
But the U.S. beat another rival, China, by 0.1 seconds (3:30.30).

In a thrilling finish, it was US anchor Simone Manuel who reached out and touched the wall before China.
Kate Douglas, Gretchen Walsh and Tori Huske were on hand to cheer Manuel on as he completed his swim to beat China and take the silver medal.
USA wins first Olympic gold medal in men’s 4x100m freestyle relay
But for Australia, it was their fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal thanks to flawless swimming performances from Emma McKeown, Molly O’Callaghan, Meg Harris and Shayna Jack.
McKeown, the 30-year-old Australian star, won his sixth Olympic gold medal and 12th overall medal in a glittering career.

McKeon’s medal tally ties her with Americans Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres and Natalie Coughlin for the most medals won at an Olympic Games by a female swimmer.
U.S. star Katie Ledecky placed third in the 400-meter freestyle early Saturday morning, winning her first bronze medal and her 11th overall Olympic medal.
For the U.S., Manuel was the only swimmer on the relay team who competed in the previous Olympics, and she also competed in the same event in the 2020 Olympics.

Manuel also won gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, winning the 100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relay.
