And, yesterday, he told NBC News that he would support requiring the government or private insurers to pay for IVF for families. He also said that he would not back restrictions on the care – which Democrats have accused the GOP of wanting to do, after Alabama’s supreme court earlier this year handed down a ruling that cut off access.

“We are going to be, under the Trump administration, we are going to be paying for that treatment,” Trump said before adding, “We’re going to be mandating that the insurance company pay.”

Asked to clarify whether the government would pay for IVF services or whether insurance companies would do so, Trump reiterated that one option would be to have insurance companies pay “under a mandate, yes.”

Abortion and IVF have been political liabilities for the GOP this year. Democrats have blasted Republicans over IVF in recent months, saying GOP-led restrictions on abortion could lead to restrictions on IVF, as well.
\n
In a statement, Sarafina Chitika, a spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, said that “Donald Trump’s own platform could effectively ban IVF and abortion nationwide” and that “because Trump overturned Roe v. Wade, IVF is already under attack and women’s freedoms have been ripped away in states across the country. There is only one candidate in this race who trusts women and will protect our freedom to make our own health care decisions: Vice President Kamala Harris.”

Main Events
President Trump has attempted to pivot to vulnerable issues, expressing support for abortion access and IVF care in Washington, D.C.
Reproductive rights have been a major weakness for Republicans nationwide ever since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago, allowing states to ban reproductive surgery. As the president who appointed the three justices who upheld that decision, Donald Trump is no exception, and he has recently attempted something of a shift on this issue.
Politico reports The former president has signaled his support for abortion access in Washington, D.C., which runs counter to long-standing Republican attempts to use Congress' unique oversight of the nation's capital to restrict abortion services in the city.
And yesterday he NBC News He said he supports having the government or private insurers cover the costs of IVF for families, and that he would not support restrictions on IVF, something Democrats have accused Republicans of wanting after an Alabama Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that cut off access to the treatment.
Here's more of Trump's remarks, via NBC:
“Under a Trump Administration, we're going to pay for that care,” Trump said, adding, “We're going to make the insurance companies pay.”
Asked to clarify whether the government or insurance companies would pay for IVF services, Trump reiterated that one option would be to have insurance companies pay “on a mandate basis.”
Abortion and IVF have been politically charged issues for Republicans this year, with Democrats blasting Republicans over IVF in recent months and saying GOP-led restrictions on abortion could lead to restrictions on IVF as well.
“Donald Trump's own policies could effectively ban IVF and abortion nationwide,” Sarafina Chitica, a spokeswoman for Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign, said in a statement. “Since Trump overturned Roe v. Wade, IVF is already under attack and women's freedoms have been taken away in states across the country. Vice President Kamala Harris is the only candidate in this race who will trust women and protect our freedom to make our own health care decisions.”
