Security Alert from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem
The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem issued a warning on Wednesday, reminding American citizens and embassy staff in Israel about standard safety protocols. This alert follows ongoing protests against Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and increasing tensions globally.
The embassy’s statement emphasized that, “Given the continuing tensions in the region, we encourage all U.S. citizens in Israel to take personal safety precautions and be prepared.”
Officials suggested that Americans reconsider their travel plans, “just in case disruptions occur,” and advised them to make informed choices for themselves and their families. They noted that “Crisis can arise unexpectedly while abroad. A little planning can help you navigate potential scenarios beforehand.”
There have been no changes to the embassy’s staffing or operations, and consular services are continuing as usual.
On the same day, Iran enforced a Notification to Airmen (NOTAM), which restricts air traffic to all flights except those given prior permission.
The U.S. Embassy in Qatar also issued a notice, letting its citizens know they can stay updated through WhatsApp alerts from the embassy.
Furthermore, the U.S. virtual embassy in Iran urgently advised American citizens to leave the country immediately, stating, “Leave Iran now. Develop a plan that doesn’t rely on U.S. government assistance.” They suggested land routes through Armenia or Turkey, assuming safety allows for it.
In case of being unable to leave home, the advice included finding a safe location within their residence, ensuring access to food, water, medicine, and other essentials.
