US Central Command Intensifies Operations Against ISIS

On Wednesday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported executing five targeted strikes against various Islamic State locations in recent days. This seems to be part of a broader military initiative aimed at “ensuring the lasting defeat of the terrorist network.”

CENTCOM noted that between January 27 and February 2, its forces identified and dismantled an ISIS communications hub, a vital logistics center, and a weapons storage site containing 50 precision munitions delivered by several aircraft types, including drones.

Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM’s commander, emphasized that these operations underscore their persistent focus on preventing ISIS from reemerging in Syria. He further highlighted that working alongside coalition and partner forces contributes to increased security not only for the United States but also for the region and globally.

Following President Trump’s declaration of ISIS’s defeat, a new challenge has surfaced as detainees are relocated amid shifting power dynamics in Syria.

CENTCOM disclosed that Operation Hawkeye Strike commenced in response to an ISIS ambush that occurred on December 13, 2025, targeting US and Syrian forces in Palmyra, which tragically resulted in the deaths of two American military personnel and an interpreter.

According to military officials, after nearly two months of focused operations, over 50 ISIS terrorists have been either killed or captured. Notably, on January 16, CENTCOM forces eliminated Bilal Hassan al-Jassim during a targeted operation in northwest Syria. Al-Jassim was reportedly connected to the December 13 attack.

Adm. Cooper had previously remarked that launching Operation Hawkeye Strike was essential for thwarting ISIS from instigating terrorist schemes that could impact the United States. He reassured that their relentless pursuit of such threats would continue, aiming to protect Americans and allies throughout the area.

Before Operation Hawkeye Strike, CENTCOM had also announced that US and allied forces had conducted over 80 operations in the preceding six months to eliminate terrorism posing direct threats to both US and regional security.
