Reports this week suggested Olympic hopeful Skye Blakely suffered a leg injury during a training session in Minneapolis, but her reaction has called into question her status on the U.S. gymnastics team.
The 19-year-old Blakely reportedly “landed short on a tumbling pass” during floor exercise practice. The Washington Post.
Blakely needed help getting up from the floor and eventually had to use a wheelchair to get around.

USA Today He added that Blakely was “crying” at the time of the injury, and USA Gymnastics’ Chelsea Memmel also embraced Blakely’s coaches.
There has been no official statement about Blakely’s injuries, but the initial reaction from her and those around her was not encouraging.

Blakely had been considered a front-runner to be included in this year’s Olympic gymnastics team, which will be made up of just five athletes in Paris.

While all eyes were on Simone Biles, Blakely finished second to the Olympic veteran at the U.S. Championships in June. She was also part of the U.S. teams that have won gold medals at the past two world championships.
Despite her talent, Blakely has not been able to compete in the Olympics due to an injury she sustained before the Tokyo Olympics qualifying tournament, and it would be tough for her to not be able to compete again for a spot on the national team.

Olympic selection begins on Friday, with the final national team to be chosen on Sunday.
