US Imposes New Sanctions on Iran’s Ballistic Missile Program

Washington:

The US recently imposed new sanctions on six individuals and twelve businesses, including several from China, associated with Iran’s ballistic missile program.

In recent weeks, the Trump administration has targeted various entities and individuals linked to Iran’s oil and nuclear sectors.

These new sanctions focus on organizations aiding Iran in gaining critical materials necessary for its ballistic missile production, as reported by the US Treasury Department.

“The United States cannot allow Iran to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles,” stated U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent.

He noted that Tehran’s efforts to produce missiles and their components domestically pose a significant threat to both the US and regional stability.

The sanctioned individuals include three Chinese nationals from companies that exported precursors for carbon fiber to licensed Iranian firms, along with three others linked to a Hong Kong company.

This announcement comes as President Trump continues his “maximum pressure” strategy on Tehran while supporting ongoing nuclear negotiations, following new sanctions on Iran’s oil sales to China.

These sanctions add to previous actions taken recently as Washington and Tehran engaged in intensified nuclear discussions.

Indirect talks occurred over the weekend, marking the highest level of engagement since the US exited the 2015 nuclear agreement in 2018.
